True Value History

True Value was founded in 1948 by Cotter & Company in the Midwest. At the time, Cotter & Company was a co-op between different stores in the Midwest region. The company had 25 stores. The company grew over time and in 1962, acquired Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett along with the True Value Trademark. The company is run today by local business owners who own the store independently from True Value. Through the brand name, stores are empowered and supplied by the company. Today there are over 5,000 locations worldwide.
